today's moon

yesterday’s yellow moon has gone
endowing fair fortune none
yet the sky was beautiful
and meaningful
when he dipped elusive feet
into orange fire, as though to meet
in masquerade, a tepid new
so becoming, his hood of Venetian blue
to take the day away
but he would stay
for hours, illuminating a mysterious sky
never wandering high
as might
a guardian knight

now today’s moon
returned so soon
not with an enthusiastic face
more with no face at all, in his place
behind the dark clouds of ever
today’s moon was much too clever
